Everneath by Brodi Ashton

History books call it the underworld. Or even hell. But I know it's neither. It is really called the Everneath, and it's not a place for the dead. It's a place for the Everliving-beings who have discovered the secret to eternal life. It's a place for their Forfeits-the humans who give up everything to nourish the Everliving. it's the world caught between this one and the next, a layer between Earth and hell. I know because I was a forfeit. I would give anything to change this.

Ohhhh I like this one! One, it's different and it's something new. I've always been oddly interested in the underworld and the understanding that there isn't just one hell but rather a possibility of levels such as those described by Dante ( I you don't know what I mean you go look up the divine comedy RIGHT NOW). This idea is developed in this story with the Everneath being a level for those who aren't yet dead but who gain their living by takin the lives of others. It's pretty awesome!

The story starts out with Nikki, our protagonist, waking up in the Everneath. Cole, the Everliving using Nikki is with her. But Nikki is different from all other Forfeits that cole has ever had in the sense that she sill has her memories and consciousness. Usually the Forfeits quite literally forfeit everything of themselves when they go into the Everneath and with that end up being a once an only once forfeit. After they are used they are useless, like a drained battery, but not nikki because she stays the same!

So Nikki is all cool and is still herself which is crazy! Cole decides that she needs to stay with him forever now that he knows he can actually have her not only because he actually likes her but for the fact that she will always be herself in the Everneath. But she doesn't want to stay and she doesn't want to be with cole because in fact, she doesn't love him and left her boyfriend on earth out of spite and feels horrible about it.

She is able to return to earth but with a mark on her body which grows with the passing of time leaving her with only 6 moths before the evils of Everneath come to collect her because she wasn't supposed to leave to begin with!

I love this! The story jumps back and forth between the time before she went to the Everbeath with Cole, to after she's come back.

I think this story is great in the sense that the story evolves into something so much more and intense as you continue to read. Instead of it simply being a supernatural love story thing, it turns into a supernatural love mystery adventure thing of awesome!

I'm trying to think of things that I disliked about this book and I'm finding it rather difficult.... Which is CRAZY. Even when I like a book there's usually always something that I would have liked differently. Hmmmmm.....
